BeautyBay Basic #1: Mastering
the eyeshadow trio
Eyeshadow compacts usually contain 3 shades; a light, a medium, and a dark shade. This is because eyeshadow is all about
blending shades naturally, and avoiding heavy blocks of colour. To make the most out of your eyeshadow trio, start
by applying the lightest shade just below the eyebrow along its length. Then apply the medium shade to the eyelid - between
the crease and the lashline. Last but not least, the darkest shade is the most important of the three, as it is used to shape
the frame of the eye. Apply the dark shade on the top lid starting from the centre of the eye to the outer corner,
and create a short pointed flick extending slightly upward.
BeautyBay Basic #2: Eyeliner - to liquid or to pencil - that is the question!
Well it all depends on the look you're after, for example, pencil is better for daytime wear, when harsh dark lines
may look too dramatic. Liquid eyeliner, on the other hand, is great for accenting the eyes and creating that cat-eye effect on the outer corner of the eyes. But for the inexperienced, I highly suggest you practise a few times before
applying liquid eyeliner for an important night out. It can get messy and difficult to avoid making a bumpy line. Eyeliner
brushes are a fantastic tool for liquid or cream eyeliner, try MAC's pointy Eyeliner Brush. If you have a sharp dark eyeliner pencil, you may never need the liquid version. And whether using liquid or pencil, always
make sure you have a dry base to "write" on. You can do this by applying concealer to the eyes, or sweeping a light
puff of powder before the eyeliner. This will ensure your eyeliner "line" will stay put.
BeautyBay Basic #3:
How do I make my lips look fuller?
There are several ways you can make lips appear fuller with
makeup. The first and most well-known is the use of the lightness and darkness to create an illusi on with lip colours. Apply your regular lipstick as you would normally, then apply a shimmery lighter shade of lipstick
or lipgloss to only the centre of the bottom lip, keeping away from the border. Another way, that renowned makeup guru Rae
Morris suggests in her book, is to apply a small dusting of golden shimmer powder to the top of the cupid's bow of your upper
lip, and to the centre of your bottom lip. You can use any shimmery powdery product for this, such as eyeshadows or MAC pigments.

Myth 1: Good hair treatments can fix split ends
No product can fix split ends, no matter how effective it claims to be. The most a good product can do is
make the hair softer and more tame, thereby causing it to appear slightly less frayed on the ends. The harsh reality is that
the only way to fix split ends is with a pair of scissors.
Myth 2: Washing your face more frequently will reduce
your acne
Whilst washing your face regularly is good for keeping acne at bay, excessive washing and in particular
harsh scrubs can actually worsen the problem. This is because too much scrubbing of the skin will cause it to try to combat
the dryness by producing more oil. The solution? Don’t overdo it. A gentle wash in the morning and in the evening is
more than enough to keep skin clean, and scrubs or harsh cleansers should be limited to a maximum of once a week.
Myth 3: Soap is bad for your skin
This notion would’ve
been true many years ago when the ingredients of soap were high in pH levels, but the soap we have these days is entirely
different, and does not harm the skin. In fact, many soaps contain moisturisers to combat that “tight skin” feeling
following a good clean wash. So use without guilt!
